Girl Next Door
At Cool Change, August 7th to 28th
In Girl Next Door, Mossy 333 (Mossy Jade Johnson) presents a deeply personal exploration of love, intimacy, and the complexities of being a trans woman through painting, sculpture, and text. The exhibition offers a meditation on the fleeting yet powerful moments of romance, sensuality, and self-discovery. Through abstract forms and soft pastel hues, Mossy captures the emotional turbulence and tender release that accompany love and desire, with each brushstroke reflecting the trans feminine body’s rawness and beauty.
The text-based works provide an intimate narrative, unpacking the intricate dynamics of cisgender perceptions of trans women. These written pieces delve into the contradictions of love, lust, shame, and ignorance, bringing light to the conflicting emotions and experiences that trans women often navigate in relationships and within themselves.
In the sculptural works, Mossy confronts the experience of objectification and the constant struggle against being pedestaled, inviting the audience to connect with the figures as not just representations of trans identity, but as relatable, human forms. These works serve as a call for empathy, understanding, and acceptance, urging the viewer to reflect on their own relationship with beauty, identity, and the body in space.
